About Maria
Maria Carparelli received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from Montclair State University. She also holds a Master of Arts in Art Education from New Jersey City University, with graduate studies in Art from the University of Hawaii, the Universita per Stranieri in Perugia, Italy, and the Pietro Vannucci Art Academy, also in Perugia, Italy. In Perugia she studied Intaglio, Art History and Archeology, and had the opportunity to visit the sites of Etruscan ruins.
Ms. Carparelli has traveled extensively, visiting such places as Italy, Switzerland. France, Greece, Spain, England, Turkey, and Casablanca in Northern Africa. While traveling, she had the opportunity to capture many interesting sights on film. Of particular interest to her were the sites of ancient civilizations, such as the Etruscans, and also Pompeii, in Italy; the Acropolis in Greece; and Ephesus in Turkey. Her photography serves as the source for her paintings, drawings and computer graphics.
Now retired, she taught art for 35 years at Becton Regional High School in East Rutherford. Ms. Carparelli currently teaches drawing to adults at the Totowa Public Library. She is a member of Art Association of Rutherford, and the Clifton Association of Artists.
Pet portraits in colored pencil and portraits in graphite pencil are now available.
